Does anyone know where the feedlots are located? I would like to go get at least one horse out of there. I heard that there are a couple in Texas. I really want to save one or more horses from going to slaughter. Or are there any auctions near Central Texas so I can buy before the feedlots do?

You mean they feed horses up and then slaughter them? Like cows? I've heard of killer-buyers buying them at auction to take to the slaughter but not a horse feed lot.

Feedlots are places where they keep horses to send to slaughter usually down in Mexico or Canada. At auctions the feedlot guys buy cheap horses and then keep them at these filthy feedlots to send to slaughter but they will usually let some people buy horses for the right price or even sell those that have no meat on them.

I don't know where/when the local auctions are but that does sound like the way to go. Then you can find out who the killer buyers are and beat them to the punch. That way you wouldn't even give them a chance to make a profit off of selling one to you. Good Luck!

Im not sure but I thought the feedlots or slaughter houses have all been closed down in Texas. This just happened in the past few years, there was 2 left. I remember seeing something about them in the news. Not sure where they take the horses now, if they are closed it would have to be out of state.

Roundmountain and taylor are the closest auctions to us and the slaughterhouses in Texas are closed--they go to mexico. A lot of slaughter bound horses are found there.
