About Northern Colorado (NOCO) Hoof Beats

GROUND MANNERS

  • If for ANY reason you are not going to be able to make a ride that you have RSVP'd for, let someone know so that they know NOT to expect you.
  • If you have organized a ride and a cancellation has to take place -- use the Horse Call List (on Meetup under the FILES tab)
  • BE ON TIME -- be at the agreed upon location early enough to get your horse tacked up and ready to ride at the time listed on the event posting...if something happens that causes you to be late (for example, a flat tire), call and let someone know.
  • Even though most trails post signs that give horses the right of way, it builds good will for us to get off the trail if possible. Keep in mind we are the minority out there and we certainly don't want the hikers and bikers lobbying to get us and our horses off of the trail and out of their way.
  • Observe good trail etiquette at all times, for example:

    • Take turns opening gates, and wait for the person to closing the gate before you ride away
    • Check with everyone in the group before trotting or loping to make sure they're comfortable with the gait change
    • Give other riders their space - your horse (or the other person's horse) may not be comfortable if they are too close
    • Tie a red flag to your horse's tail and notify everyone if there is a chance he/she will kick

  • If you and/or your horse trailer-pool with someone, always offer to pay a fair amount for your transportation (and remember the expense is not just gas - it's ownership, use, maintenance and insurance on a truck and trailer), and clean up your trash and your horses' manure before you leave the vehicle/trailer.
  • Plan to either ride until the designated ride coordinator stops, or be ready, willing, and able to get yourself and your horse back to your trailer by yourself. Don't expect others to cut their day short because you or your horse are tired or having a bad day.
  • This group is about having fun and sharing common interests, but not about making money. Don't try to sell horse related products or services via our Meetup site, or by using our meetings, trail rides, or contacts you make here.

We want this group and our activities to be fun for everyone -- All of us are committed to enjoying the riding season together and being a part of a good group of riders.....this is your group, so if you have suggestions or ideas, please let us know.

As our group has grown, we feel it is necessary to establish these parameters around how we interact with each other. If you have suggestions for additions or changes to this list, please contact the Organizer or one of the Assistant Organizers.
